At 126 gm, SS Hemp is a mid-weight fabric. Along with the weight, the natural strength of hemp creates a fabric that holds its shape well – making the shirt fit consistently throughout a day of wearing in warm weather climates.
Hemp yarns have an uneven quality (like linen), creating a texture on the fabric surface you can see and feel. Since the shirts are solid in color, the texture from uneven yarns helps make the shirt unique (compared to a smoother fabric like poplin).
Other claimed benefits of hemp include: anti-microbial (resisting bacteria), UV light filtering for skin protection, and color retention.
Hemp is considered an eco-friendly fabric, made of fibers from the cannabis plant. It is said that cannabis requires less water, fewer pesticides to grow, and more efficient crops (better land use) than cotton and flax (linen). Hemp is a biodegradable fiber.
